We’re almost “home.”

Just last week, we were camped in the desert, surrounded by wide-open spaces, endless horizons, and arid conditions. Normally, we take our time  getting back to the Midwest, savoring the journey and stopping in fun places. But this year, a confluence of events has us moving much faster than usual.

The landscape outside our window shifted dramatically-from the muted browns of the desert to the lush greens, bursts of color from spring blossoms, and plenty of spring storms. While we’re not excited about the unpredictable weather this time of year, we are looking forward to reuniting with family and friends.

Our summer home base is just a few hundred miles away, and soon, we’ll be dusting off furniture, airing out the space, and settling in for four beautiful months. Our summer home is more than just a place-it’s our refuge, our happy place.

Of all the places we’ve been, it’s the one we most want to go back to.  That said, the road is always calling. While we’re eager to spend the summer in the rolling hills of the Laurel Highlands, the map is already spread out, and our route to the Northwest this fall is taking shape.

It’s the best of both worlds-loving where we are now while anticipating the adventures waiting just beyond the horizon and the landscapes shift once more.  What are your plans for the summer? Do you have amazing little or big adventures that will feed your soul?
